Terms of Service

Last updated: January 2025

Welcome to the IREN community! These Terms of Service are here to help everyone — students, parents, teachers, schools, and community members — understand how we work together to create an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment. By using our services, you join us in this mission.

1 Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, accessing, or using the IREN platform (including the web platform, IREN educational devices, and community features), you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. These terms are designed to be fair and welcoming to everyone. If you have any concerns, we encourage you to reach out to us before deciding to discontinue use.

2 Description of Services

IREN provides a welcoming ecosystem of tools and services designed to support inclusive education:

  • IREN Educational Devices: Physical learning devices that are registered to a school and linked to teachers. Each device accesses educational content uploaded and managed by the assigned teacher, enabling students to engage with curriculum materials in an inclusive and hands-on way.
  • School Management Platform: A web-based system for Headteachers and Teachers to manage students, curriculum, performance, and attendance with care and efficiency.
  • Teacher Content Portal: Teachers upload and organise educational content that is delivered directly to linked IREN devices used by students in their class.
  • Parent Portal: A dedicated interface for parents to monitor their child's academic progress and communicate with schools.
  • Community Stories & Events: A space for our community to share inspiring stories, celebrate achievements, and participate in events that bring us together.
  • Subscription Plans: Flexible monthly and yearly plans for schools and families to access IREN's platform and device services.

3 User Accounts and Responsibilities

Every member of our community plays an important role. Here's how we can all contribute to a positive experience:

Headteachers

Headteachers are responsible for managing their school's IREN account, adding teachers and students, and ensuring the platform is used in accordance with these terms and applicable school policies. We appreciate your leadership in bringing inclusive education to your school.

Teachers

Teachers are responsible for uploading and managing the educational content that is delivered to IREN devices linked to their account. They may access student data, create curriculum materials, and track student performance. All content uploaded should be appropriate, accurate, and used for educational purposes. Thank you for the incredible work you do every day.

Parents

Parents register independently and are responsible for maintaining the security of their account credentials. Parents may view their child's progress, manage their family subscription, and engage with community stories and events.

Community Members

Community members who engage with stories, events, and discussions are expected to be respectful, supportive, and kind. Hateful, discriminatory, or harmful content will not be tolerated. We celebrate diversity and welcome contributions from all backgrounds.

4 Subscriptions and Payments

  • Subscription fees are billed monthly or annually depending on the selected plan.
  • All prices are displayed in USD and TZS. Porto Limited reserves the right to update pricing with 30 days' notice.
  • Payments are processed securely. Porto Limited does not store full card details.
  • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the renewal date.
  • Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact iren@porto.africa for refund requests.
  • Schools are onboarded manually — a Porto Limited representative will contact you after you express interest.

5 Acceptable Use

To keep IREN a safe and welcoming place for everyone, we ask that you kindly agree to the following:

  • Please keep your account credentials private and do not share them with unauthorized persons.
  • Use the platform to share positive, educational, and respectful content only. Content that is harmful, illegal, offensive, or discriminatory towards any individual or group is not permitted.
  • Respect the intellectual property of IREN and others. Do not attempt to reverse-engineer, copy, or reproduce IREN software or devices.
  • Use student data responsibly and solely for education and school management purposes.
  • Help us maintain a reliable service by not interfering with the platform's security, performance, or availability.
  • When engaging with community stories and events, be kind, constructive, and inclusive in your comments and interactions.

6 Intellectual Property

All IREN software, content, designs, logos, device concepts, and educational platform components are the property of Porto Limited. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute any part of the IREN platform or its associated materials without written permission.

7 Limitation of Liability

While we do our very best to provide a reliable and valuable service, Porto Limited cannot be held liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the IREN platform. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the service in the preceding 12 months. We always encourage you to reach out if you experience any issues — we're here to help.

8 Termination

We hope it never comes to this, but we reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that significantly violate these Terms of Service or harm our community. Before taking action, we will make reasonable efforts to communicate with you. Users may close their account at any time by contacting our support team — no questions asked. Upon termination, your data will be retained for 30 days before deletion, unless required by law.

9 Changes to Terms

As IREN grows and evolves, we may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We will always notify users of significant changes via email or a prominent notice on the platform. We encourage you to review the terms periodically. Continued use of IREN after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you have concerns about any changes, please don't hesitate to contact us.

10 Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Republic of Tanzania. Any disputes shall be resolved through the courts of Tanzania or through mutually agreed arbitration. We always prefer an open, friendly conversation before any formal proceedings.
